Taringa Rovers Soccer Football Club, one of Brisbane’s oldest soccer clubs, has proudly served the local community for 75 years. Founded in 1949 by Jack Speare and Ernie Dixon, the club was established to provide a healthy recreational outlet for young people in the district. Starting with just one junior team and no fixed home ground, Taringa Rovers embodied a spirit of resilience and community—a spirit that continues to drive the club forward today.
After six years of playing on Moore Park behind Indooroopilly School, the club found its permanent home at Jack Speare Park, sharing a lease with Western Suburbs Soccer Football Club. This was the first of many milestones, as the club grew from humble beginnings into one of the most recognized community soccer clubs in Queensland.
Today, Taringa Rovers continues to thrive, with a record 1,200 players across 88 teams in 2024, ranging from ages 4 to 59. The club’s facilities at Jack Speare Park have expanded to include two senior fields, one junior field, a licensed clubhouse with a function room, a canteen, dressing rooms, and a grass cricket pitch. These facilities reflect decades of dedicated volunteer efforts and the club’s commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for players of all levels.
In addition to the fields at Jack Speare Park, Taringa Rovers also utilizes state-of-the-art facilities at Grindle Road, Wacol, where our senior teams train. The Grindle Park fields feature advanced drainage systems and provide the much-needed space for TRSFC to continue supporting its high-performance teams.
As we look forward to the 2025 season, we are excited to announce that Taringa Rovers’ Silver Rated Academy will once again compete in Academy League 3. Achieving Silver Rated Tier 1 Academy status is a testament to the hard work of our coaches, managers, players, and supportive parents. A special congratulations to Academy Director Adam Maunder, Head Coach Andy Dixon, and the entire coaching staff for their efforts in advancing our academy’s reputation.
The Academy will continue to build on its successes, striving for further improvement on and off the field in pursuit of higher ratings in future seasons. This progress comes in part due to the rigorous evaluation process conducted by Football Queensland (FQ), which assessed over 1,500 data points across 75 different criteria for the 2025 Provisional Declaration of Leagues. Our inclusion in Academy League 3 is a reflection of our commitment to providing an outstanding development environment for our young players.
As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we honor the legacy of those who built Taringa Rovers from the ground up and look forward to many more years of success, growth, and community involvement. Here’s to the next 75 years of soccer excellence!
